The Legend
Many in our town have tried to keep quiet the story you are about to read. Terror such as this, however, can not be restrained. Early in the spring of 1963, a young research doctor named Richard Ivan Patterson purchased an old building and filled it with a labyrinth of “test” rooms.
Dr. Patterson’s interest was fear, his goal, to determine the limits of the human mind. He worked to determine how much fear the human mind could withstand before being pushed irretrievably into madness. Dr. Patterson, or Dr. Shock as the locals called him, termed this transformation from sanity to madness, “MIND SEIZURE.”
The doctor required test subjects with sound healthy minds; few volunteered. With a lack of willing subjects, residents began disappearing and “Dr. Shock” was rumored to be the cause. It is said, that using a truth serum the doctor would discover his victim’s deepest and darkest fears then proceed to make them a reality. Dr. Patterson stated in one of his papers “The range of fears imaginable by the human mind is impressive indeed. Fear of the dark, insects, aliens, and clowns are just a few. Surprisingly, a fear of one’s own insanity is at the top of the list.”
Of the countless disappearances, few were ever seen again and of those who were, none seemed sane enough to tell of the horrors they had experienced in “Dr. Shock’s Institute of Fear.” It is believed that Dr. Patterson’s ultimate goal was to find a cure for insanity. All his attempts to bring his subjects back from the point of “MIND SEIZURE” were miserably unsuccessful. Even decades later, there are whispers of odd mental patients still babbling about “Dr. Shock’s Institute of Fear.
With the entire community in a state of near hysteria, only one man had enough rage to accomplish what the rest could not. On a windy fall night, Mr. Robert James answered his front door only to find his daughter, Rose, who had vanished several months earlier. Hysterical and long past the point of “MIND SEIZURE” Rose James uttered but one word, “Patterson.” With that one word and the sight of his once beautiful daughter, now frail and broken, Mr. James’ greatest fear had come true. He made the leap from sanity and past the point of “MIND SEIZURE" into madness with one thing on his mind, the end of Dr. Richard Ivan Patterson.
With the rage of insanity in his eyes Robert James proceeded to the doctor’s office, where he accomplished the doctor’s grisly end. When the police arrived, however, they found only the horrific evidence of Mr. James’ rage; No doctor and No patients!
To this day, the fate of the doctor and any patients that may have survived is a matter of rumors and nightmares. All that remains is an essay entitled “The Limits of Fear” written by the good doctor himself and notes documenting his victims’ worst fears, the ones that drove them over the edge into “MIND SEIZURE.”
As you tour this terrifying labyrinth keep an eye out for Mr. James’ daughter Rose as she wanders lost and lonely, her mind still shattered and broken. And before you enter make sure to ask yourself this question: Can you remain on this side of “MIND SEIZURE?” WHAT ARE YOUR LIMITS?
Come, Face Your Fear!
